Originally from Armidale in New South Wales, Maya moved to Cairns in 2011 and joined Baseline Tennis Coaching Academy in late 2022. She primarily coaches kids between the ages of 4 and 11 years old, at the Cairns International Tennis Centre.

When did you start coaching tennis?

I started coaching tennis in 2022 at the Cairns International Tennis Centre.

Who do you coach and where?

I coach kids mainly between the ages of 4 and 11 years old, at the Cairns International Tennis Centre.

What do you love about coaching tennis?

My coaching style is more suited to younger kids – I love incorporating creative aspects and themes into the exercises I run. I find that coaching isn’t all about tennis, especially for younger kids — it’s about being active in a way where you can enjoy yourself.

Favorite tennis memory?

Being in the semi-finals of the match-play program. Another great one is the games week we have at the end of each term, it’s a great way of having fun and connecting with my peers.

Favorite tennis player?

I would say Sabalenka. Her fighting spirit and the fire in her game is admirable, and I greatly respect the dedication of all high-level players and professionals.

Favourite tennis brand of racquets and shoes?

I don’t have a favourite brand, but I am currently enjoying my Wilson racquet and Nike tennis shoes.

Fun Fact about you...

I have played the cello since I was 8 years old and am now lead cellist in Cairns High’s Symphony Orchestra! I also used to dance, particularly jazz and tap, and I have a strong interest in languages.
