Friday Matchplay Program

WHEN & WHERE

Friday Matchplay runs every Friday from 3:45pm across three 1-hour time blocks at the Cairns National Tennis Centre.

DIVISION STRUCTURE

At the start of each term, every player is placed into a division of 8 players at their level. We currently run 21 divisions across five levels:

• Red Ball
• Orange Ball
• Green Ball
• Yellow Ball
• Academy

Each player competes against others in their division week by week across our 9-week program — building match habits, consistency, and that all-important competitive experience.

HOW SEMIFINALS & FINALS WORK

Week 8 of each term is Semifinals and Week 9 is Finals. Positions in the Semifinals and Finals are determined by each player’s results accumulated across the first seven weeks of the program, based on both individual singles scores and doubles scores. This system rewards players who show up consistently and compete hard every single week — because in Matchplay, every week counts!

PROMOTION & RELEGATION

At the end of each term, every division is reviewed to ensure all players are competing at the right level for the following term. Here is how it works:

• Top 2 players in each division final → Move UP to the next division
• 2 lowest scorers on the ladder → Move DOWN to the division below
• Remaining 4 players → Stay in the same division for next term

This system keeps competition fair and ensures every player is always appropriately challenged.
