Baseline Tennis Academy is dedicated to nurturing tennis talent and fostering a love for the game in players of all ages and abilities. With a team of experienced coaches, state-of-the-art facilities and a commitment to excellence, Baseline Tennis Academy has become a cornerstone of the local tennis community, providing top-quality coaching and programs designed to help every player reach their full potential. This commitment to excellence was recognised by Tennis Queensland in 2024, when Wayne Fielder – our Director of Tennis – was named Winner of the Coaching Excellence – Club Award at the 2024 Queensland Tennis Awards and went on to be in the top 3 Tennis Australia National Finalist. Baseline Tennis Academy runs its programs, classes and lessons at four convenient locations, the Cairns International Tennis Centre on Sheridan Street, Edge Hill Tennis Club, Freshwater Tennis Club and Redlynch Tennis Club.
Our mission is to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where players of all levels can develop their skills, build confidence and experience the lifelong benefits of tennis. We see tennis as more than a sport; it’s a path to personal growth, fitness and community connection. Our programs cater to all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced athletes, supporting their development every step of the way.
Wayne Fielder brings over 30 years of tennis experience to Baseline Tennis Academy. Originally from Portsmouth in England, he started playing when he was 8 years old and has been coaching since his teens. With a Tennis Australia Club Coach Professional qualification, Wayne has led players and his coaching team at Baseline since 2008. His positive, inclusive coaching style encourages players to learn, grow and enjoy tennis in a supportive atmosphere.

Our vision is to grow local talent by mentoring and training future coaches from Cairns. We’ve established a pathway for locals to become qualified tennis coaches, allowing junior players to develop their skills without leaving town. Many coaches are university students who gain flexible employment while staying active in tennis. This approach retains talent, strengthens the sport locally and nurtures a love for tennis in our community.

With a variety of junior tennis programs and pathways for all ages and skill levels, Baseline Tennis Academy is Cairns’ premier destination for young players to learn, grow and enjoy tennis.
